This article could be of a good help to all the art collectors across the globe in knowing how few things could bring out the best when it comes to displaying an art. A lot of times you must have wondered why is your art not doing a complete justice on your walls? The following few tips could give a quality output and may enhance the overall ambience of the space.

Tip # 1: Lighting

Lighting is definitely one of the main factors if not the only factor that matters and also equally important aspect yet quite often being overlooked. The amount of light not just affects how bright or dark a space may look or feel but also holds the power to transform the energy that a painting may carry, bringing out the best of visual experiences. Light has the capacity to let out true values or the hues of colours or textures of a painting.

A good lighting has the ability to decide how dull or muted a painting could look or even how intense or vivid a painting is, doing complete justice to the amount of hard work that an artist puts into the making of the painting.

Hence choosing the right amount of lighting is really an important job as it effects the overall ambience to the environmental space and definitely contributes and adds value to the visual comfort of the human experience.

Furthermore, choosing the right amount of lighting is applicable to both indoor and outdoor spaces. At the same time, you are also advised to be responsible enough before choosing to display your painting outdoors under direct exposure to the sunlight as it may have it’s own drawbacks in the longer run.

The idea is to make the artwork compliment your space yet making it more effective and create an impact that it deserves. The recommended lighting is LED because it is very low on UV emission and additionally it is also more protective towards your art by not allowing the light to emit very high temperatures yet producing right amount of brightness needed. the arrangement of how light is placed also depends on the size of the artwork, some paintings will bring out it’s best with projection / focus lights while the others may just look good in the regular ceiling spot lights, table lamps, floor lamps or the chandelier. As every other work of art is different, you could take your pick with whichever matches your requirement the best.

Tip # 2: Framing

The second equally most important aspect to enhance the look of a painting is framing. To an extent it is debatable but in my opinion a nice suitable frame to any painting can give it a complete look, it also helps you grab the viewer’s attention in a quite effortless manner but then again to put that into perspective only a right type of framing will make that huge and a good difference, for e.g. if you choose to go with a traditional frame for a modern art painting it probably could kill the beauty of it, ( if you know what I mean ), so it is important to have a fair judgement on what type , size or the colour of frame might suite a particular work of art, if not you could always seek some professional advice.

When it comes to an abstract art my top most preference and favourite has always been a plain and a simple black frame, because black frames generally go well with majority of the artwork and it does make a statement, however that’s just my opinion, you could go by your personal taste and if required you could also consider previewing through photoshop renders just to be sure before you could decide on something (just a tip).

Also, I am safely assuming that you don’t believe in “one size fits all “ kinda theory. All that I mean to say is the thickness of the frame depends on the size of the artwork, so basically if you choose to hang a small size painting then broader frames may not really be a good idea considering the overall proportion of size of the artwork, therefore think twice and choose wise.

Some of my collectors do not prefer to or even follow the culture of framing the painting and that is completely fine as well. If the canvas paintings are stretched and if you are happy with how the sides of the painting look it is absolutely ok to even hang them unframed as long as you are satisfied with the way it looks on your wall, however the framing is generally considered as an interior designing feature bound to enhance the impact.

Tip # 3: Size of the artwork

Like they say size does matter and so does the orientation when it comes to hanging an artwork on the wall, Deciding to go with the right size of the artwork could sometimes be a little challenging because according to me a piece of stunning art holds the power to transform the overall ambience, feel and the vibe of a room and how you choose to display the art and go with the right size is as important and not to be neglected or overlooked if you intend to achieve the maximum possible impact for all the money you’ve invested in your new art.

The way you choose to hang the painting on your wall can take your home décor / interior to a totally next level altogether, generally when it comes to using the wall space more constructively, it’s always safer to take into account the two-thirds to three-fourths of your vacant / available wall space considering the entire wall is free for a display. However, let’s assume you choose to hang your painting at a focal point may be above a furniture in your living room or the dining area then you could continue to follow the same proportions and choose the size of the artwork that fits the exact vacant space keeping the proportions in mind.

Most importantly, if you also have plans to frame your artwork then it’s wiser to consider the measurement of the painting along with the frames so that the proportions are not disturbed.

Another important thing to keep in mind is to try and hang the painting at an eye-level but of-course there’s always an exception to this rule as every space is different and its requirement could vary accordingly.

Before I wrap it all I’d like to confess that It’s is my humble intention to make your dream home look at it’s best however all of the above tips may vary according to your choices and preferences and is completely under your personal discretion. Please seek a professional guidance to further understand what look would fit the best for your home interiors.
